Antique Fetish Pot or Bowl Attributed to Teddy Weahkee Zuni with 4 Horn design

Description

This rare old pot was most likely made by Teddy Weahkee in the early 1930s judging by the 4 distinctive coyote and water serpent horn fetishes. It is unusual that the bowl is made from a Santo Domingo chili bowl. The bowl measures 7 3/4 by 4 inches and the horns measure between 5 and 6 inches.  All of the holes in the bowl as well as the decorations are hand drilled and strung with sinew and brain tan. Unfortunately the bowl has a 3 1/4 inch crack as can be seen in the last photo and the brain tan thongs tying the fetishes in place have been replaced. The last 3 photos show similar fetish pots depicted in the 1976 book "fetishes and carvings of the southwest".
