If you need portability, don't have a lot of room, and / or don't have a lot  to spend, here is a simple, low cost, and highly effective solution to enhancing signal reception on the Realistic DX440. A 25ft portable wire shortwave antenna for use in your home, apartment, on the deck or in the field, at the beach, the picnic, the campground, the condo, the boat, ... anywhere!  Also serves nicely as an indoor antenna for residents in Apartments or Condo Associations.
You plug the pl259 adapter end into the RCA EXT ANT jack on the back of your radio, or you can clip the antenna clip onto your telescopic antenna... and experience a big increase in Shortwave reception.
I guarantee reception improvement over the standard telescopic antenna !
Many have commented that they experience a noticeable improvement in FM reception as well.

You can run the wire out a window, along the floor, ceiling, deck to deck, deck to tree branch, fence, the combinations are endless. And, at the end of the day, you unplug it, wrap it up and put it away for next time. Have fun experimenting and DX chasing by running the wire straight, angled, in a loop, a slope etc..  It's simple.
(and... you can also hook this up to ANY shortwave radio, ANYWHERE,  indoors or out and get great reception over a telescopic.) The antenna can double as a lead in to a permanent outdoor antenna later on if you chose to have one.
This antenna  consists of:
25' high quality, insulated copper wire  (the antenna)
PL259 adapter plug (plugs antenna into your RCA EXT ANT jack on the back of the radio)
Quick clip alligator clip for connection at opposite end of the wire.
(clips onto your radio's telescoping antenna) .
Includes easy to follow instructions and SWL listening tips.
